About PDF Annotation Extractor
The PDF Annotation Extractor pulls all annotations from PDF documents — including highlights, sticky notes, underlines, strikethroughs, free text, and ink drawings — and organizes them into a structured, exportable format. PDF annotations are the standard mechanism for collaborative review and feedback in academic, legal, and publishing workflows. The tool also performs intelligent entity detection on highlighted text, identifying embedded dates, monetary amounts, email addresses, URLs, and phone numbers. Everything runs in your browser using PDF.js, keeping your annotated documents completely private.
How to Use
Upload an annotated PDF file to instantly extract all annotations. Filter by annotation type (highlight, note, underline, etc.), sort by page number, date, or color, and switch between page view, color view, and data table view. Export results as plain text, Markdown, JSON, CSV, Obsidian-formatted Markdown, or a digest summary. The Detected Data panel shows structured entities extracted from highlighted passages.
Common Use Cases

- Compiling highlighted case law passages and sticky note comments from annotated legal briefs for trial preparation
- Generating a consolidated feedback report from all annotations across a PDF manuscript proof for authors and editors
- Extracting highlighted financial figures and dates from annotated contract PDFs for structured data entry
