About PDF Bookmarks Editor
The PDF Bookmarks Editor lets you create, edit, reorder, indent, and delete bookmarks — also called the PDF outline or table of contents — in any PDF document. Bookmarks are hierarchical navigation anchors embedded in the PDF file that allow readers to jump directly to chapters, sections, and subsections. Professional PDFs without bookmarks force readers to scroll through hundreds of pages manually. This tool supports nested bookmark hierarchies and JSON import/export for batch management, with all processing done privately in your browser.
How to Use
Upload a PDF to see its existing bookmark tree. Add new bookmarks by specifying a title and target page number, drag entries to reorder them, use indent/outdent to create nested hierarchies, and click the pencil icon to rename any bookmark. Import bookmarks from a JSON file for bulk operations, or export the current structure as JSON for reuse. Click Save PDF with Bookmarks to download the updated document.
Common Use Cases
- Adding a complete clickable table of contents to scanned PDF textbooks that were digitized without bookmark structure
- Rebuilding corrupted or incorrect bookmark trees in PDFs exported from CAD or desktop publishing tools
- Creating nested chapter, section, and subsection bookmark hierarchies in long technical reference manuals
- Removing auto-generated bookmarks with incorrect page references from PDF exports of presentation software
- Adding navigation bookmarks to merged PDF compilation documents assembled from multiple source files
