About PDF Redact
PDF Redact is a free online tool that permanently removes sensitive information from PDF documents by drawing black redaction boxes over any text, image, or content you want to hide. Redacted pages are flattened to images, making the underlying data irrecoverable — not just visually hidden. Everything runs in your browser — files never leave your device. No signup required, no watermarks.
How to Use
Upload a PDF (up to 50 MB) and draw redaction rectangles over all content you want to permanently remove — drag to define the area on each page. Use Undo and Redo for precision, and the Clear Page button to restart redactions on the current page. Navigate between pages to redact content across the full document. Click Apply & Download to permanently burn all redactions into the PDF and download the secured file.
Common Use Cases
- Legal teams and paralegals preparing documents for public disclosure or opposing counsel can redact attorney-client privileged content, witness personal information, and confidential settlement figures before producing the document.
- Healthcare providers and medical offices sharing patient records must redact identifying information — names, dates of birth, social security numbers, and insurance IDs — to comply with HIPAA privacy requirements before disclosure.
- HR departments sharing payroll summaries or performance review documents externally can redact individual employee names, salary figures, and identification numbers before sharing aggregated reports.
- Government agencies responding to Freedom of Information Act requests can redact classified information, personal data, and law enforcement details from responsive documents before public release.
- Businesses submitting RFP responses or vendor contracts to procurement portals can redact proprietary pricing, trade secrets, and internal cost structures that should not be visible to the reviewing party.
