About Compression Ratio Analyzer
The Compression Ratio Analyzer measures the theoretical and practical compressibility of text data by computing its Shannon entropy, Huffman coding lower bound, and estimated compression ratios for algorithms including DEFLATE, LZ77, LZ78, and LZW. Understanding compression behavior is essential for selecting appropriate algorithms for log storage, network transmission, API response compression, and archive file optimization. Highly repetitive data compresses dramatically; random or already-compressed data compresses minimally.
How to Use
Paste text or a data sample into the input field to analyze its compression characteristics. The tool computes the Shannon entropy (bits per character), the theoretical minimum compressed size, and estimated ratios for each algorithm. Results include original byte count, estimated compressed size, space savings percentage, and a recommendation for the best algorithm for your specific data type.
